Power City Bruins Head Coach Craig Newell shook up his lines after a tough performance Friday night, looking for a spark against a familiar tough opponent. The results largely exceeded expectations.
Hayden Hockaday's team high 22nd goal of the season completed the hat trick to lead the Power City Bruins past the Webster Cyclones, 6-2 in a matinee at Hyde Park Ice Pavillion on Saturday. AJ McCune, Joey Kinder, and Carter Winiarski added a goal and an assist each. Cody Schoen stopped 24 shots to earn the victory.
Despite generating only six shots in the first, the Bruins were able to jump ahead 3-0 and force a goaltending change from the visitors. The first two periods were mostly controlled by the Bruins, and though outshot in the third they were able to add to their lead with a pair of goals.
Derrek Wolski led the defensive effort with two blocks, and Dario Savard led the physical element with a team high four hits. The game may have swung further for Power City if not for special teams - both Cyclones goals came with the man advantage, while the Bruins failed to convert on four power play opportunities.
After going 2-1 in league play this week, the Bruins are out of game action until Sunday, November 24th when they take on the Hamburg Hawks at Buffalo State. Puck drop will be at 1pm.
