Despite jumping ahead by two goals twice, the Power City Bruins could not hold the lead, surrendering five unanswered goals in falling to the Amherst Knights, 7-4 on home ice at Hyde Park Ice Pavillion.
Hayden Hockaday scored his 25th and 26th goals of the season, while Dario Savard scored his second and Nick Sobczyk scored his second in as many games. Carter Winiarski, Jake Nobel, Kamden Proper, Aiden Loncar, and Brody Hockaday each had an assist for the Bruins.
The game was physical from the start with both teams throwing heavy hits in effort to set the tone. The Bruins finished the first period with 24 hits, easily their best single period of the season and better than several games. However the physicality - and the penalties - caught up with them. The stout Bruins penalty kill went 2 for 4 against the Knights while failing in two power play opportunities of their own.
RJ Turner stopped 25 of 31 shots for the Bruins (one ENG). The physical effort was led by Benny Lazzaro, and both Brody and Hayden Hockaday with seven each, followed closely by Savard and Vance Graham with six. Savard also had a team high four blocks.
The Bruins next practice on Tuesday evening at Hyde Park Ice Pavillion before hitting the road on Saturday, December 21st against the Rochester Jr. Amerks at Tim Hortons Iceplex @ 9:30am. This will be a rematch of a game the Bruins led throughout before surrendering a third period lead to fall at home, 4-3.
