Aiden Loncar scored and added an assist while Cody Schoen turned away all 18 shots in a dominant victory for the Power City Bruins, 5-0 over the Grand Rapids Blades. This was the tournaments opening game for both teams.
Joey Kinder, Vance Graham, AJ McCune and Hayden Hockaday also scored for Power City. Nick Sobczyk, Benny Lazzaro and Jack Boddecker added assists for the Bruins, who went 2-for-5 with the man advantage to break the game open in a four goal second period. The Bruins were perfect on the penalty kill in three attempts.
Brody Hockaday led the physical game with seven hits, while Graham added three. Four Bruins blocked shots in the contest - one each for Kamden Proper, Derrek Wolski, Dario Savard and Graham.
As a unit, the defense kept the Blades opportunities away from the high danger areas for most of the game. The forwards supported very well, taking away several opportunities in the neutral zone where the Blades looked to threaten. Shots in the game were 18 to 16 in favor of the Blades - most of that action took place in the first two periods. The third saw only four shots total between the teams as the Bruins locked the game down.
