Sometimes the game gives, and sometimes it takes. Saturday afternoon at the Northtowns Center, the Power City Bruins were given a little bit back.
Hayden Hockaday capped his hat trick in the final minute to earn the Power City Bruins a hard fought 3-3 tie against the Amherst Knights on the road. Carter Winiarski extended his point streak to five games with a pair of helpers while Jack Boddecker , Chase Newell and Brody Hockaday added assists. Goaltender RJ Turner made 29 saves.
After an emotional roller coaster derailed for the Bruins Thursday night against the Rochester Jr. Americans, the boys kept it on the tracks at several points throughout the game. The Knights buried their first shot of the game only eight seconds in, however the Bruins were in control for most of the first period.
The game quickly became one of attrition, one where the Bruins appeared to have several players shake off some pain throughout. This was reflected in the shot totals where the Knights won each period - first by one, then by two, and finally by eight in the third period. Power City was out shot in the game, 32-21.
Benny Lazzaro returned to the line-up (upper-body) after playing only a few seconds against the Americans, providing three shots on goal and a team high three hits.
The banged-up Bruins get an opportunity to rest this week with practice on Tuesday and Saturday before heading to Port Huron, MI and the Silverstick Regional tournament beginning on November 8th.
